Surfer of the Month

Mr Tom Curren

With a classic style and grace, this waterman is a true legend of surfing.
Tom hailing from California won three world titles – in 1985, 1986 and 1990 –  He rode his Al Merrick-shaped boards with style and mesmerizing grace. He always let his surfing do the talking and preferred staying out of the lime light.  With two world titles in the bag, he quit pro surfing and married his first wife, Marie and went to live on the Basque coast, in France.
This decision to take time out stunned the surfing world but nothing could prepare the Surfing circus for his comeback in 1990.
Tom Curren surfed as a trial list at the contests – and he won a crazy 7 of them that year and drove home to a 3rd World Surfing Title.

"Curren's reputation as one of the world's greatest surfers in history is supported by his accomplishments as a competitor. But most surfers would define Curren as an artist, then as a world champion..." from Matt Warshaw 'Surf Riders'.
