Lakey Peak in Sumbawa to Host Rip Curl GromSearch #3 on April 10th

The next destination for the ever-GromSearching Rip Curl team is world famous Lakey Peak on the island of Sumbawa.  Lakey Peak is already famous for producing some of Indonesia’s best surfers due to its perfect right and left peak as well as Lakey Pipe, Periscopes and other nearby surfbreaks, so it’s a given that the action will be fast and furious when the GromSearch hits town on April 10^th.

Lakey’s consistency, power, and variety was the training ground for Rip Curl’s wunderkind Oney Anwar, as well as big wave charger and colorful personality Dedi “Gun” Satriadin.  Among the hottlest young groms in Lakey is Oney’s little brother Andre, who may be small in stature but he has the heart of a lion and will be a force to be reckoned with in the upcoming event.
The Rip Curl GromSearch Team will be heading over the Lakey Peak a few days early to take advantage of a promising swell forecast, with special guest Bruno Santos hopping on board.  The groms will get a real treat and no doubt pick up some good surfing tips from Bruno, which will make the entire event something to remember.
“It’s always great to to Lakey Peak because the waves are so good, and going there with the GromSearch crew to surf and help out at the comp will make it even better. I’m really excited about it,” said Santos.
The winner and the runner up in the Under 16 year old division of each 2011 Rip Curl GromSearch will receive an all expense paid trip to compete in the GromSearch National Finals in October at Kuta Beach in Bali.  A great adventure awaits those lucky groms on what just may be their first trip ever to Bali, with a week-long Grom Training Camp and then the full-on challenge of surfing against their peers at Kuta Beach and the chance to become Indonesia’s 2011 Rip Curl GromSearch Champion.
The grand prize for the 2011 National Final’s Champion at Kuta Beach is a trip to Australia in 2012 to compete in the Rip Curl GromSearch World Final that is held each year at Bells Beach, truly a great honor and a great reward for the best Indonesian grom of 2011.
There is no entrance fee for participation in Rip Curl GromSearch events, and all contestants receive a Rip Curl goody bag and Rip Curl T-shirt. They are also given instructions on environmental awareness as well as the chance to participate in interesting non-surfing games during the day.

The Rip Curl GromSearch Series 2011 is sanctioned by the Coca-Cola ISC (Indonesian Surfing Championship) Tour; all contestants will receive ISC Junior Division points at each event. The Under 16 year old surfer with the most points accumulated through all junior events at the end of the year will become the Indonesian Junior Champion for 2011.
