22 April 2011, Kuta-Bali: On Tuesday April 21st in honor of Earth Day, the Coca-Cola Bali Corporate Affairs team spend the entire morning cleaning up the beach, then in the late afternoon starting at 5:00 pm staged a public program that included releasing turtles, giving away beach chair cushions and custom made surfboards to their beach retailers, and then in conjunction with Quiksilver Indonesia handed the lifeguards brand new gear.
The afternoon program was well attended by a combination of foreign and international tourists, press, the local beach retailers, members of Quiksilver, the Coca-Cola Indonesian Surfing Championships and Pro Fauna.
The highlight of the program was certainly the baby turtles that were being released into their natural habitat after having been taken care of by the Kuta Beach Sea Turtle Conservation (KBSTC) led by Mr. Agung Ngurah Tresna.
After being carefully chosen and instructed by Mr. Agung, the lucky few were given a plastic containers each with a tiny Olive Ridley turtle in it and led down to the beach, where they carefully set the cute little critters down on the sand and helped them to find their way out into the ocean.
After ensuring that all the little guys had made it out past the breaking waves safely, the crowd returned to the podium for the remainder of the program, which started off with MC Mr. Agung calling up some of the beachside retailers and giving them custom made beach chair cushions and surfboards on behalf of Coca-Cola. Mr. Agung was assisted in his MC duties by Tipi Jabrik, who in addition to being the CEO of the Coca-Cola ISC is also a Quiksilver Surf Team member and a CSR Ambassador for Coca-Cola Amatil Indonesia.
Last but not least on the agenda was Quiksilver Indonesia presenting the Kuta Lifeguards with brand new outfits, and then with the sun setting in the west a short thank you speech by Coca-Cola’s CSR Coordinator Thesa Anggi concluded the event.
Since 2009, Quiksilver Indonesia and Coca-Cola Amatil Indonesia have partnered up in an effort to improve the condition of Bali’s beaches, water, wildlife, and people. With programs that included buying tractors and hiring staff to clean the beaches daily, building the turtle hatchery and donating funds to its upkeep, outfitting the Badung lifeguards, sponsoring the Indonesian Surfing Championship Tour and much more, they hope to create an example that all businesses large and small will follow, resulting in a healthier and happier Bali for all to enjoy.
