26th Sept- Got a call in from Phuket today regarding the confusion on the contest results in the semi-final heats. It was unfortunately that during the heat, Mamat accidentally drop-in on one of the waves with other contestant. It is clear that his highest point will be slashed out and best 2nd & 3rd highest point will be calculated for his total points. It was announce on the loud speaker that Mamat cruises through to the Final heat although his highest point was taken out.
However, after the heat is over......Mamat was told that he is out of the contest and didnt qualify for final heat of the contest. So it was quite a confusion what was the rules & regulations that is involved on the drop-in situation. Do you cut their highest point or disqualify the surfer?
I hope the Quiksilver Phuket Contest Organiser or the Head Judge should explain how does this confusion happen in such a big event. I bet Mamat & Fairus deserve a good explanation on this so there isnt any confusion.
