After being the first non-surfing industry sponsor of a surfing tour in Indonesia, starting in 2008 with a partial year sponsorship that continued through all of 2009, CCAI was very impressed with the performance of the ISC and the results they achieved, eading to a multi-year sponsorship beginning in 2010 and continuing through 2012.
At the 2010 Coca-Cola ISC Tour Launch and Press Conference, CCAI President Director Peter Kelly expressed his delight at opportunity to partner with the ISC in Bali, saying, “As a business leaders in Indonesia we are very pleased to have found a partner such as the ISC where we can make a real difference in the lives of the people in the communities that we operate in. We hope this sets an example that other big businesses will soon follow. From increasing the awareness of how important it is to take care of the environment and on to supporting young athletes in achieving their goal of becoming professional surfers, we are proud to have the Coca-Cola name linked with the ISC. We’re looking forward to a long and fruitful relationship together.”
The Tour Launch and Press Conference was held on the corner of Jalan Melasti and Jalan Pantai Kuta and started off at just after 5 pm on Wednesday March 31st. To start things off, custom-made Coca-Cola surfboards were given away to the surfing event sponsor representatives of Billabong, Quiksilver, Rip Curl, Reef, Oakley, and Rusty, as well as to several of the beachside drink vendors.
A speech by CCIA President Peter Kelly was then followed by a speech by ISC CEO Tipi Jabrik, who explained briefly how the ISC Tour was started in 2004 as a mostly volunteer organization, funded by the surf brands in Bali, and how proud he was of the progress made by the ISC so far. He continued by thanking Coca-Cola, the surfing industry, and the community for their support, and then concluded by pledging his sincere determination to continually grow and improve the organization.
Next, CCIA Business Services Director Bruce Waterfield took to the stage and elaborated on how CCIA is committed to keeping the beaches and water clean, as well as helping out in other areas of the community, and that through the ISC and the sport of surfing these messages can be more effectively delivered and reinforced.
The symbolic signing of the agreement then took place between Waterfield and Jabrik, after which Jabrik presented Waterfield with a Coca-Cola ISC surfboard to place in his office.
A Hula-Girl dance performance and a surf brand fashion show followed to give the audience a short entertainment break, before the final part of the agenda, the press conference, commenced. Fielding questions from the media was 2009 Coca-Cola ISC Surfing Champion Lee Wilson, ISC’s Tipi Jabrik, CCIA’s Bruce Waterfield, and ex-World Tour Pro Surfer and Quiksilver Sports Marketing Manager Jake Paterson.
The press conference was concluded at just after 6:30 pm, and in the waning light the attendees were thanked for their participation and the event was called a wrap with a reminder that the next morning was the official start of the 2010 Coca-Cola ISC Tour, so all should make the short trip up to Canggu Beach to see the start of the Oakley Pro 2010 6 star surfing competition.
