While in New York for the Seychelles and BC Press launch last week we wandered over to the Superheroes Fashion & Fantasy exhibition at the Met. The exhibition is truly worth a visit if you're in NYC!
Sponsored by Giorgio Armani the exhibition features a mixture of film costume, couture, and sportswear, defined by different interpretations of the body,'The Graphic Body' with Superman and Spiderman costumes and designer pieces, 'The Verile Body' from the Hulk to incarnations by Alexander McQueen and Galliano, 'The Paradoxical Body' from Catwoman costumes to Dolce and Gabbana, Thierry Mulger, and Versace runway looks, 'The Patriotic Body' with Wonder Woman's red, white and blue, to designs by Bernhard Willhelm and Rick Owens, 'The Armoured Body' featuring the enormous Iron Man costume and designs by Thierry Mulger, Pierre Cardin, and Balenciaga, 'The Aerodynamic Body' featuring sportswear from Speedo and Nike, 'The Mutant Body' from X-Men costumes to Alexander McQueen, and finally 'The Postmodern Body' also with designs from Alexander McQueen.
Definitely worth taking a look if you love fashion but if you’re a cartoon fanatic or fantasy film geek then it'll be right up your comic strip!
