Road Riding : Day 1

Road riding is an observation about salesman activities, such as : account development; merchandising; and order generation (Wulandari, 2010). New employee in Coca-cola must take this activity to know how the front liners (salesman) do their hard job.

This was my first day in road riding activity. I was located by HR department in North Sales Center (for North Jakarta distribution area). My job was accompanied Bapak Suparjan, one of the best salesman in North SC. He has been doing this job since 1989 (20 years, wow!), he has 2 children, his home in Tangerang. His experience is not only in North Jakarta, but he also had been located in Central Jakarta.

Bapak Suparjan

According to plan that HR gave to me, i was scheduled to visit provision store, such as toko eceran, warung belanja, and traditional whole seller. There were 12 stores, which located almost in Kemayoran area (Utan Panjang, Bendungan Jago, Cempaka Baru), we should visited. Me and Pak Suparjan visited every store using motorcycle. I prepared helmet and rainy coat because today is a rainy season, right?.

Warung Belanja

Traditional Whole Seller

What did we do in every store?*Actually not we, but Pak Suparjan did. Because I was doing observation only =p, hehehe. Okay, what did Pak Suparjan do? :
  • He checked the merchandise media and sticked new advertisement.
  • He checked stock of product and ordered new product using ROAM (real time technology for order new product).
  • He checked the refrigerator whether there were another product or not. If there were another product, he should took those out and changed with Coke product.
Aw aw aw, those were not Coke product from Coke Refrigerator!

So sorry, we should take you out, babes!

Pak Suparjan rearranged and got all Coca-cola products in

Taadaaaa! All done! (I helped him too) =)

There were others activities he did, but I couldn't tell you the details. By the way, I had some learning from this activity. A salesman do his job during all day long, from 7 am to 5 pm, so it makes me realized how difficult to make money is. He has to achieve his sales target, but maybe because of rainy season, many customers objected to order. I saw him, I saw his passion, he never complain about his job, he was inspiring me, thank you Bapak Suparjan, see you soon! xoxo =)
