The Quiksilver King of the Groms South East Asia Final returns to Half Way on Kuta Beach in Bali, starting with qualifying heats on Friday July 9 and running through to the grand final on Sunday July 11. The Harris Resort on Jalan Pantai Kuta will host the awards presentation on Sunday evening starting at 6:00 pm.
Last year saw almost 100 frothing Under 16 year old surfers from as far away as the Philippines and Thailand joining grommets from all over Indonesia to compete for the King of the Groms crown. Grommet is the surfer slang term used for kids under 16 years of age.
At stake is the coveted all-expense-paid trip to Hossegor Beach in France to compete against the other King of the Grom winners from 18 other countries in the King of the Groms International Final that will take place later this year during the Quiksilver Pro France from September 25 to October 5.
Last year’s winner was Quiksilver team rider Sandi Slamet from West Java, who had an amazing experience traveling abroad for his first time. “It was a life changing event for me”, he said. “Traveling there and back was a real adventure, and then meeting so many people and especially some of my surfing hero’s at the Quiksilver Pro, it was the best thing ever.”
There will also be a “push in” contest for micro grommets, giving them a chance to compete with the assistance of their fathers or mothers and making it a fun event involving the whole family.
So make sure get down to Halfway Kuta Beach to see the hottest groms in Indonesia and South East Asia competing for the King of the Groms 2010 title, as well as enjoy a clean and beautiful beach courtesy of the Quiksilver and Coca-Cola Amatil Indonesia beach cleaning crew.

The Quiksilver King of the Groms is a Grade 2 Coca-Cola Indonesian Surfing Championship Junior Division Event. The contestants in the Under 16 category will receive points towards their 2009 Coca-Cola ISC Junior Championship rankings.
