It's a different feeling...the intensity you felt while paddling into a waves during a contest is a total different story. To some, hearts are pounding...strokes are quicker...currents are stronger.....and the cheering you heard while you are in a heat on a contest is on Top of The World!!!
But to some surfers, they look at it with different angles... Some will find it ridiculous to join a contest cos it is a complete waste of time...when there is waves waiting somewhere else and why bother joining a contest. Some find it bias, some are too afraid cos winning is their main aim and losing is the end of the world. Whatever the conclusions are.....we all share the same passion.
Ridding the endless waves......
To me, it is even more torturing if u are a surfer and taking up a post as judge during contest.
I remember 2 years back when i was invited to be a judge for a local surf contest....
The waves was breaking and peeling nicely on the first day of contest...and all i can do is watch and judging for the contest!!!! hahahahaha However, i feel good after all and it is about giving and taking.......
With such contest, the next generation will grow and the new generation will improved.
Just look at our local grommets now....with their skills down the line, im starting to learn from them instead...
With all the supports we have so far, a big thanks to all the wonderful people who put in the efforts to bring this sport forwards....and for the companies like Billabong, Quiksilver, Globe, BIG FOOT Industries, Cool Elements, Poo Skimboards and many more.....
I hope that more will join us and bring this sport forwards......
A quick line for a wonderful person that i've met in Cherating few years back....Mr. Paul Anderson from Billabong. He will be retiring from Billabong this month and will be heading for his world trip doing what he love...surfing!!! He puts in the efforts to sponsors and look after our young surfers like Mamat, Didaqt, Yen.....bringing them to bali, phuket for surf contests. Solute!!!! Have fun in Tavarua...
I did a contest few years back just for the fun & thrill of it. Just to bring everyone together....
It was really a small contest without even a PA systems. We brought our home speaker and hang our own flags....was out 4:30am to put up the bamboo flags....with all the helps from local cherating surfers, kl surfers and generous support of surfers in Johor, Tioman, Perhentian and Singapore. Response was quite good for a small contest and off course there is complaints here and there but i was happy i did it. To some who was there...this is just to refresh your memories.
The Judges Tower & Judges......Hafeezzzz the flagman!!.....hehehe.........
